On the additional resources page I've uploaded a revision test for the september exam. Late, yes, but I was desperately trying to ensure I covered enough content in the real exam so that we didn't have to do two separate exams. I think I have gotten away with that so I've decided to do away with the second exam completely. Year 12 will therefore have one 1.5 hour exam (during block exams), Year 11 will have only one exam (during next week 8/9-12/9), which will also be approx 1.5 hours.

Much better option I think you'll agree.

Answers will be up after you've had time to have a go.

BTW that wasn't the one that I was telling y'all in class to check out - the one I was talking about in class was from our own blog site - it's from his blogness 11IPTReganD.

If it's productive and relevant, I don't have a problem with informality. I could bring up examples of statements or questions in blog entries for our project that have been neither productive nor relevant, however they are pretty obvious.

There are some programming activities posted to the additional resources page. Good preparation for the upcoming exam, perhaps, and practice for your major project.

This issue reared its head during the school holidays. Basically an extension of the whole phishing idea, but instead of clicking on an email link to be taken to a dummy site the fake site sabotages a domain name that you type into your browser! So if you type in ipt.wikidot.com then potentially it could redirect you to a fake site - even if you have been to the real site before.

Scarey stuff.

yup as it's a US hosted site, it's US date format as well as being recorded as US time. ie what is 6am for us is actually 8pm of the previous day for them…. give or take a few hours.

I don't know whether it's just me or not, but are the dates etc for when blogs are posted, out of wack?
I'm assuming it's in American time or something.

Just thought I'd bring that to everyone's attention.

Whilst this journal entry is nothing to do with our assignment, this person has written a good reflective journal entry by documenting problems that he experienced whilst working on an assignment and also stated how problems were overcome.

Not all journal entries are expected to be this long however if you have documentation in the back of your mind for each problem or decision you make then they could well be as long as this. And that's a good thing because it demonstrates that you have put a lot of thought into your work. You will also benefit from reflection because it helps you to more quickly visualise the solution for a similar problem you might have in the future.

yeah I made the site fully private. Just for extra protection. You'll need to login to access the info from now on. But you already know that by now.

Stumbled upon a discussion thread on another site about which software development cycle phase could be left out if necessary. Interesting.

No ideas made for my group yet, since I don't talk to any other members, and probably won't talk to them until Friday.

Some people haven't become members to this site yet, and a lot of people haven't even posted on the forums here.

I think that a text-based game supported by a few images, or maybe even one where you can interact with images, is as far as we (Year 11) can go. If you made a game in some other program other than Delphi, a lot of the coding is done in that game-making program - I think that stuff is meant to stay in Delphi, to actually have something to be marked. You'll probably summon the game's executable file via Delphi, but nothing of the file is translated into Delphi's language.

I don't mind ditching these game ideas for other types of programs to make since I think they get rid of the need to be flashy or impressive, but my opinion only matters if anybody in my group actually reads this post.

Well, there's no reason you can't… just a reason you shouldn't… Homework is for practising so the assessment items are less intimidating. Delphi is the language of choice for your project in term 3 (and upcoming exam(s), so it's a good idea to be up to speed with Delphi.

But, any programming practice is good practice, so by all means do Python as well. I haven't used it before so I can't offer syntax advice on cue, but we could figure out stuff together.

Just make sure you're dedicating time to Delphi too.

Hey.
Seeing this is a first for me, i wanna know if something is possible.
With any Delphi homework we may/may not get, is it possible to code it in Python 2.5? Or any other coding program for Ubuntu for that fact?
I can use Delphi if these others aren't an option, but it's worth a try.

Hm…i like the idea. The only thing is that it may be abit hard to sort of make/build…but if there was a way around that, i reckon everyone would have fun with that. Because you can express really different ideas, have all sorts of random things happening etc.

If a completely useable game like…a proper sort of one with 3D levels etc was to be made/put on the tables, a few programs allow users to do such a thing.

FPSCreater, 3D Game maker, etc etc all allow you to do so.

But in saying that, it's gotta be done at school so… >_>

Re: Project ideas - term 3 by 12IPT Dale_W12IPT Dale_W, 1215321665|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

I've been thinking about what you can work on for your term 3 project. I don't want to give you a task and say 'produce this' like I have been with your homework tasks, rather I would like to see some creativity of your own (mind you, 99% of the time this is not the way it happens in the real world… especially for programmers).

So, I put forward to you, what ideas do you have? Games, useful programs, database application… come up with some ideas.

For the project, you will need to use file input/output, arrays, and multiple units, as well as creating documentation, so bear this in mind when thinking of ideas.

eg I've looked at http://www.urbandead.com which is an idea that we could modify (ie scale it down to single computer, limited actions, limited weapons etc). This could include a character creator, or a level creator or something.

What are your ideas?

Really, the entire thing is iffy. I mean, like Steven said, most bands or movie companies etc don't care less about the consumer.
Even if you don't buy CD's (which most artists don't make the most money of these days), buy merchandise or go to there concerts etc. Not only does this show support, but give the artist more of an idea who enjoys there music, and the type of people.

Re: Ethical Question by 12IPT Dale_W12IPT Dale_W, 1213937011|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

not yet as there's still somebody to sit the exam. I'll just delete any posts that give info away.
